The Core DNA
Sequencing Facility of the Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center at the University of
Illinois has implemented a system to
submit and track orders, retrieve data, gain access to analysis software and obtain troubleshooting assistance. The site is located at https://unicorn.biotec.uiuc.edu.

Step 1. On the homepage, click on Create Login Account for dnaLIMS and fill in the required fields. You will receive confirmation of the creation of your login account. You will only need to do this once. |
Step 2. On the homepage, select Login to dnaLIMS . Enter the username and password you chose during the creation of your account. The first page contains the main menu where you can choose from the following: |

To submit a DNA Sequencing order
- Select Payment Manager from the Customer Tools section. Follow the instructions to create a payment option that will be stored in your account. Users that are part of the University of Illinois system may only enter an 18-digit FOAPAL number. Off-campus users should use credit cards or purchase orders.
- Back at the main menu, select Sequencing Order Form .
- Choose a service option from the drop-down box.
- Ready-To-Load: reaction has been completed by the user and needs purification and electrophoresis.
- Sequencing: the Core Facility performs the sequencing reaction, purification and electrophoresis.
- Enter the number of sequencing reactions for this order and hit Submit .
- The request form will display. Please enter the required information:
- Template name (<=10 characters), concentration and size (in kB).
- DNA type: PCR product, plasmid or BAC.
- Primer name (if custom, then <=10 characters) and concentration.
- After table is completely filled in, hit Submit to enter it in the system.
- The next page contains a summary of the order and an order number at the top. Please print two (2) copies of this page. One copy must be submitted with your samples. When the order is complete, you will receive an e-mail at the address you specified during account creation.

To retrieve data from a completed Sequencing order
- Log into dnaLIMS.
- In the Core Sequencing Services section of the main menu, select Data Retrieval .
- Select the appropriate order number from the list and hit Submit .
- Download your results. Note: To view chromatograms on a Macintosh, use the Macintosh Resource Fork Repair Tool located under Support Tools on the main web page.
