DNA Sequencing Team
High-Throughput Sequencing Unit
|
The primary mission of the High-Throughput Sequencing and Genotyping Unit is to facilitate the unraveling of genetic information across the large and diverse collection of animals, plants and microbes that are the research focus of many of our faculty. The unit prepares libraries and generates DNA templates and sequence data using Sanger, pyrosequencing (Roche GS FLX+), and Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing platforms. These resources are also critically important to the operations of our sister units, Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics.
In addition, the facility provides DNA services for investigators requiring core DNA sequencing and fragment analysis. All of the unit’s services include consultation and assistance in all aspects of a project. Researchers are encouraged to discuss their projects with facility personnel who would be glad to provide information and quotes for their projects.
Services:
- Custom cDNA library construction for transcriptome sequencing.
- Preparation of shotgun and pair-end libraries from genomic DNA, BAC's, fosmids, long PCR products, etc.
- Sequencing service options from 1/16th PTP to multiple PTPs.

Construction of libraries from genomic DNA, small RNA, mRNA, ChIP DNA, etc.
- Sequencing service options from 1 lane to multiple flowcells.
- Single reads or paired reads.
- 35, 75 or 100nt reads.
- Plasmid preps (on the Qiagen 9600 BioRobot).
- Sequencing on ABI 3730xl capillary systems.
Please contact Dr. Alvaro Hernandez, Director of DNA Services ( aghernan@illinois.edu) at 217-244-3480 or Chris Wright, Assistant Director of DNA Services
(clwright@illinois.edu)
at 217-333-4372 to discuss ways the staff can be of assistance in achieving
your project goals or to receive a quote for your project.
