General charging policy

    • All insturments require sign-up in advance on the sign-up sheets next to each instrument.
    • All new users must see a Metabolomics Center Staff member before using any instrument for the first time to arrange for training. New users cannoot be trained by other personnel, including the trained members of their research group.
    • Cancellation Policy: 24 hours notice (by in person cancellation on the sign-up sheet, email or phone call to the Metabolomics Center) is required or you will be charged for the time signed up for. If extenuating cirumstances occur that make 24 hours canncellation impossible, please talk to the Director.
    • Users must in most cases provide their own extra supplies such as sample vials, specialized solvents and specialized GC and LC columns, and to keep for their own use.
    • On instruments that have a required clean-up protocol, there is a $50 clean-up fee if the protocol is not performed by the user.
    • The Metabolomics Center staff members are willing to help the users to develop the methods and provide consultation according to the user's needs. Please talk to the Director for potential emerging costs.
    • The Metabolomic Center is responsible fro instrument set-up and instrument monitoring.

    Sample Preparation Fee Structure

    • The Metabolomics Center staff member can ehlp prepare the samples. For example, in GC/MS, the precedure will include sample extraction from raw materials (i.e., leaves, seeds, stem, tissue, etc.) and derivatization (i.e., TMS derivatives). Some compounds like free amino acids from raw materials may need purification (i.e., solid-phase extraction. The user is responsible for supplying SPE cartridges).
    • The amount of sample preparation time varies depending on the projects. Please talk with Center Staff for detail information.

Data Processing Fee Structure

  • Researchers are encouraged to make use of two data analysis workstations in the laboratory. The Center staff will provide instruction on using the various data analysis software programs. There is no charge for such assistance and using the workstations.
  • Available programs include Chemstation (for Agilent LC, LC/MS, and GC/MS), ChemDraw, and MS Manager.
  • Upon the user’s request, qualitative and quantitative data and statistical analysis (i.e., Principle Component Analysis (PCA), discriminant analysis (DA), Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC), etc.) to the acquired experimental data can be supplied. Please contact Center staff for the related fee.

*** Service includes sample preparation, instrument set-up, method development, instrument monitoring, data processing and consulting.

Facility users other than State of Illinois institutions are subject to a 25.3% indirect cost rate for federally funded projects.  For off-campus projects exceeding $5,000 a contract must be negotiated through University of Illinois Grants and Contracts.  For further information, contact Dr. Mark A.
